Shadow Shoppe
Summer 2009 Prototype | Casual, Puzzle | Adobe Flash (Windows / Macintosh / Linux)

Once upon a time,
the people of a small town
lost their shadows.

They disappeared one day
and never returned.

Ashamed of their calamity,
they wrote their pleas in a letter:
“Please return our shadows. Thank you.”
and sent it out into the night.

One morning,
a man with a shadow arrived.

“I’ve come to return your shadows,”
he said, “but I’ll need help in creating them.”

In the small town,
he set up shop.

The shadowmaker
and his shadow shoppe.

Welcome to the Shadow Shoppe, located in a small town where people have lost their shadows.

As a temporary apprentice to the shadowmaker, your goal is to help create and return the shadows to your townspeople so that life can go back to the way it was. Are you up for the challenge?

To create complete shadows, you as a player have to pick the most suitable word out of those presented to them. When a customer request (or requests) comes in, these shadows are revealed again. This time round, you have to pick the shadow that best suits the customer’s description.

Research Question

With the intention to collect data on how people associated character traits with body shapes, Shadow Shoppe is a casual memory game set in a small town that has lost their shadows. The player takes on the role of a temporary apprentice to the shadowmaker and has to help create and return the shadows to the townspeople. Shadows are created by assigning a trait (or traits) to a projected silhouette; shadows are returned by selecting the right shadow based on the given request.

Requirements

Shadow Shoppe requires a steady internet connection to play the game. Shadow Shoppe also requires Adobe Flash Player 9 or a later version.
